The Westy and I drove from Seattle to Bishop, California, back in November to climb some rocks.  A few mountain passes, loss of dash lights, and weird engine noises I was there.  Here are a few pictures from along the way.

Vanagon song (explicit lyrics)

With the rainy winter season here in the Pacific Northwest, it’s time to install a rainfly. With this one from Go Westy, it took us less than an hour to install the snaps on the pop top and get the whole thing set up. The hardest part was getting it folded back up again to fit into the storage bag. Hello windy winter camping!

Hello windy winter camping!

Last week we took the Westy on an adventure to the desert. It was the first time taking it over Snoqualmie pass, and it did great, even holding a minimum speed of 45mph during the really steep sections. We ended up here. Can you spot the Westy in the top picture?

Throttle body cleaning.Surprisingly, the wood floors did not fix the weird idle/stalling problems that I’ve been having.  After plenty of research, recommending all sorts of things to look for and fix, my dad suggested that the throttle body may need some cleaning.  Being a backyard mechanic, this task seemed more daunting than it actually was.  The hardest part was putting everything back in place. The idling seems to be right on track. For now.

Replacing the floor

After reading on the samba about all the westy owners replacing their old floors with nice new wood (or pergo) floors, the westy decided it needed wood floors too!  After a trip to the home improvement store and pricing out pergo, and subfloor material, the first step would be trying to figure out if the old floor would come out.

25 years of dirt!

25 years of dirt

pulling out the old floor

subfloor has been removed

Success! On to the new floor…

break

half-way there

Done!

done!
